Zarif says no resemblance between Muslim Iranians, Wahhabis

TEHRAN, Sep. 07 (MNA) – The kind of Islam Iranian believe in bears no resemblance to Wahhabism, said Iran’s FM Zarif in reaction to Saudi Mufti saying Iranians are not Muslims.

“Genuinely, there is no resemblance between the Islam believed by the majority of Muslims and Iranians and what is propagandized by the racist extremism of Wahhabi Mufti and Saudi pro-terrorism heads,” asserted Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Foreign Minister of Islamic Republic of Iran on Tuesday.

The remarks by Zarif came after Wahhabi Mufti Abdulaziz Al Sheikh of Saudi Arabia said to the Makkah newspaper that Iranians are descendants of “Majuws,” a term referring to the followers of pre-Islamic religions of Iran.

“We must understand these are not Muslims, they are children of Magi and their hostility towards Muslims is an old one. Especially with the people of Sunna,” Saudi Mufti has been quoted.
